Our Values
Community
We believe in the restoration of communities through long-term relationship inside local red-light areas. Sari Bari hopes to be a vehicle of transformation within communities where it has a presence. We are seeking to see that Sari Bari is a place of safety, family and community for the women whom we employ and their families.
Restoration
We believe in restoration of persons to wholeness. The women who enter the doors of Sari Bari have come out situations of abuse, neglect and untold hurt. We believe that, through intentional loving relationship in the context of transition and aftercare, women who have been prostituted can be restored and healed.
Holism
We believe that we need to be a support to the whole person. We seek to create an environment that restores the whole person to a whole life.
Freedom
We believe in the right to freedom for all persons. We believe that slavery, sexual or otherwise, is an affront to the character and person of God. We believe that women who have been prostituted can have freedom from the sex trade.
Dignity
We believe that dignity must be given to all persons regardless of sex, race or social status. We will work to restore the stolen dignity and value of women who have been prostituted.
Hope
We believe that Hope is what moves us forward. The belief that there is something better and more profound just around the corner compels us to pursue the dreams we may never see realized on behalf of the women at Sari Bari and their counterparts who currently remain in the sex trade.
Empowerment
We believe in the empowerment of women and their families through education and a positive, well-paid employment experience. All women at Sari Bari go through a six-month training period that includes literacy, math, mental-health education, play, sewing and budgeting.
